Summary:
The Data Analyst supports insurance systems and data platform initiatives by combining strong data analysis capabilities with hands-on business analysis and delivery partnership. This role is responsible for translating business needs into clear, actionable data and technical requirements while supporting end-to-end solution delivery across insurance data ecosystems.
The position supports all data analysis work related to insurance systems development, including conversion analysis, data preparation for conversions, reference and master data management, and data feeds to downstream systems such as the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Oracle General Ledger, and Ceded Reinsurance platforms.
Acting as a key liaison between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, the Data Analyst works closely with business users, product owners, architects, and developers to ensure requirements are well understood, prioritized, and implemented accurately. Success in this role requires excellent communication skills, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to navigate both business and technical conversations with confidence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Partners with the AVP, Insurance Enterprise Data to support the timely delivery of enhancements and new data capabilities aligned with business objectives.
• Elicits, documents, and translates business requirements into functional, technical, and data specifications that development teams can execute against.
• Serves as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and technical teams for assigned initiatives, ensuring alignment on scope, priorities, and delivery expectations.
• Performs detailed data analysis to support system design, data integration, reporting, and decision-making needs.
• Develops and maintains Source-to-Target mappings in collaboration with business and technical stakeholders.
• Creates, refines, and supports user stories, technical stories, acceptance criteria, and related documentation throughout the Agile delivery lifecycle.
• Manages intake and inventory of incoming data and reporting requests, helping stakeholders define scope and set priorities.
• Supports development teams during build activities by clarifying requirements, resolving data-related questions, and validating solutions.
• Coordinates and supports quality assurance activities, including test planning, test case design, and review of test results.
• Works with vendors, system integrators, and internal teams to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality delivery of data solutions.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong knowledge of Property & Casualty Insurance, including policy lifecycle, policy structure, and core insurance data elements.
• Demonstrated experience in a hybrid Data Analyst / Business Analyst role, translating business needs into technical and data requirements.
• Proven ability to work closely with software development teams in Agile or iterative delivery environments.
• Experience working with financial and accounting data, including General Ledger integrations and externally reported financial results.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
• Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills, including requirements workshops and cross-functional discussions.
• Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to understand ETL processes and data transformation logic.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data issues and recommend practical solutions.
• Experience working with modern data architectures (ODS, data warehouses, data lakes, data marts).
• Understanding of reference and master data management concepts.
• Familiarity with insurance reporting and regulatory data requirements is a plus.
• Solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Exposure to cloud-based data platforms and modern data integration approaches.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build trusted relationships across teams.
Education and/or Experience:
A bachelor's degree is required, with 5–7 years of experience in data analytics, business analysis, or hybrid data/business roles—preferably within an insurance or financial services environment.
