Position Overview:
  • Under the general direction, the Director of Network Operations and Infrastructure provides leadership, vision, and oversight for the planning, implementation, management, and security o the network operations and network infrastructure systems.
  • This encompasses data centers, networking hardware, telecommunications, cloud services, wired and wireless connectivity, and disaster recovery.
  • The Director leads a dedicated team to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of campus-wide technology systems, supporting the college's academic, administrative, and operational needs.
  • Collaborating closely with IT leadership, college administrators, faculty, and staff, the Director delivers secure, high-performing, and innovative network and infrastructure solutions.
  • This is an administrative position, exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, with responsibility for formulation and recommendation of district policies, regulations and budget decisions related to the area of responsibility.
  • Classified administrators serve under contract and make contributions toward PERS (a retirement plan).

Pay Rate: $85.00-$90.00/Hour.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Network Management: Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the college's network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance
  • Infrastructure Planning: Develop and execute strategic plans for the growth and optimization of network and infrastructure to support the college's educational and administrative needs
  • Security Oversight: Implement and manage robust security measures to protect the college's data and network resources, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols
  • Compliance: Ensure all network and infrastructure operations comply with relevant regulations and standards such as FERPA, CIPA, ADA, and other educational and data protection laws
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of network engineers, IT professionals, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment
  • Project Management: Manage large-scale IT projects, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and vendor management, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Technical Support: Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex network issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuity of educational activities
  • Collaboration: Work closely with academic and administrative departments to understand their technology needs and ensure network solutions align with the goals
  • Innovation: Drive innovation in network and infrastructure technologies, exploring and implementing new solutions to enhance the educational experience
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, infrastructure changes, and security protocols to ensure transparency and continuity
  • Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for network operations and infrastructure, ensuring cost-effective use of resources
  • Training and Development: Organize and conduct training sessions for staff and faculty on new technologies and best practices in network and infrastructure management
  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor network performance and infrastructure health, implementing improvements and upgrades as necessary
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee the integration and management of cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity and optimal performance
  • Cloud Security: Implement and maintain security measures for cloud infrastructure, including access controls, data encryption, and compliance with relevant regulations
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; (attach transcript).
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure, including supervisory or management experience.
  • Demonstrated strong technical knowledge of networking (LAN/WAN), firewalls, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), virtualization (e.g., VMware), storage systems, and enterprise systems architecture.
  • Demonstrated proven experience in disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and cybersecurity practices.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make informed decisions quickly and effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Adaptability: Capacity to adapt to rapidly changing technology landscapes and business needs.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively across departments to ensure seamless integration of network and infrastructure solutions.

  • Project Management: Proficiency in managing large-scale projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders, vendors, and team members.
  • Network Architecture: Deep knowledge of network design principles, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and cloud networking.
  • Infrastructure Management: Extensive experience in managing physical and virtual network infrastructure.
  • Security Protocols: In-depth knowledge of network security practices, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption techniques, with a focus on protecting student and faculty data.
  • Compliance Standards: Familiarity with educational compliance standards and regulations such as FERPA, CIPA, ADA, GLBA, and NIST.
  • Emerging Technologies: Awareness of current and emerging technologies in networking and infrastructure, such as SD-WAN, IoT, and edge computing.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education or public sector environments
  • Professional certifications such as CCNP, PMP, CISSP, or similar
